Luz M. Karas, MD
Luz M. Karas, M.D. is a board-certified pediatrician, trained at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital (State University of New York at Stony Brook, New York). Dr. Karas is originally from Colombia and trained at Pontifica Universidad Catolica of Ecuador, where she obtained her degree as a Doctor in Medicine and Surgery. After 7 years of training, she elected to come to the US to persue further education in pediatrics. Dr. Karas relocated to Long Island, New York where she succesfully completed training. she was awarded many times for excellence in teaching and leading residents. After graduating in pediatrics, she accepted a position at Hudson River Health Care in Long Island, New York.
Dr. Karas and her family have now relocated to Orlando. She is pleased to join Dr. Cardona’s practice as they both share a steadfast commitment to care for children. Her major professional interests are in the area of autoimmune conditions, infectious diseases and allergy/immunology. She enjoys getting to know her patients’ families and working as part of a team making sure that every little one succeeds in life.
Hernando A. Cardona, MD
Dr. Hernando A. Cardona was born in New York City and lived there until his father moved the family to Colombia. He did his medical school training there, graduating in 1994, and meeting his wife in college. Together they came to the United States in 1997, when he took his boards and finished his training at the Pediatric Residency Training Program at Beth Israel Medical Center and the Long Island College Hospital – a SUNY Downstate affiliated program. After finishing his residency, he stayed on an additional year as Chief Resident, and moved down to Central Florida in 2003, where he lives with his wife and their three children.
After joining and becoming a partner at Windermere Pediatrics, he broke off from them in the summer of 2013 to open his own practice, Pediatrics of Greater Orlando. His major professional interests are in the areas of infant and child development, growth disturbances, childhood obesity, and ADHD. Outside of work, you might encounter his family hiking a trail, or geocaching.
